DANGEROUS COAST

- Banff Strike Wing -

by Robert Taylor

A large force of Mosquito's from RAF Coastal Command's Banff Strike Wing exit a deep sided fjord along Norway's rugged, heavily defended mountain coast. In the distance smoke and explosions reverberate from their successful rocket strike against enemy coastal shipping, destroying yet another cargo of iron ore destined for the furnaces of Germany's industrial war machine. Above them P-51 Mustangs provide top cover support should any patrolling enemy fighters decide to make an appearance.

The de Havilland Mosquito was arguably the finest mult-role combat aircraft of World War II and remarkably, one of the few front-line aircraft constructed almost entirely of wood. Few other warbirds were built in so many versions for so many duties. With its two man crew the Mosquito pioneered unescorted high-speed daylight bombing over Germany and formed the backbone of the Light Night Striking Force. Ten squadrons operated with No.8 Group, the elite Pathfinder Force, as precision target markers.

Mosquito's ranged across occupied Europe striking such targets as the walls of Amiens prison, and the Gestapo Headquarters. They destroyed V-1 & V-2 sites and in the air Mosquito's destroyed 428 V-1 flying bombs. They also formed the core of Coastal Command's legendary anti-shipping strike force, the role chosen by artist Robert Taylor in his thrilling new painting Dangerous Coast as a tribute to the Mosquito crews of World War II.

Fresh from thestudio of the world's master aviation artist, each print in Robert Taylor's compelling new edition has been signed by some of the most respected Mosquito aircrew of World War II to make this wonderfull collector's item a timely piece to be treasured for the generations that follow.
