The 28th Regiment at Quatre Bras 1815 by Lady Butler

QUATRE BRAS 1815

by Lady Butler

The painting depicts the 28th ( North Gloucestershire ) Regiment of Foot at the battle of Quatre Bras, which took place two days prior to the Battle of Waterloo. They have formed square to meet attacks launched at approximatley 17:00 hrs by Polish Lancers and cuirassier veterans led by Marshal Ney. The failure of the French attacks seriously hampered Napoleon's overall plans and indeed it was not a battle he sought but one precipitated by his Marshal.
